- It was developed through hybridization between the BVN and OM4900 rice varieties. The Southern Seed Corporation (SSC) successfully selected and bred the line CT286-17-1-1-1. After purification, this line was coded and officially named Dai Thom 8. Dai Thom 8 has a growth duration of 90–100 days.
- Dai Thom 8 rice has large, long grains with minimal chalkiness. When cooked, the rice is soft, slightly sticky, and mildly fragrant.
